Brain Dead

Bonjour……Mon marie and I started intensive French School today – with a private tutor for EACH of us, no less.  (That’s really cool.) How long has it been since you really worked out your brain?  Five years ago? Twenty five years ago? My brain has been stretched today and is leaking out of my ears.  🙂   I even had homework.  12 hours of one-on-one for me this week, and about 20 hours for Tanner.  Now THAT’S INTENSE!  The axiom says, “You are never too old to learn….” Yeah, but does Axiom know how to speak French?!?

We have a signed contract on our house!  Which is wonderful and a blessing.  And strangely anti-climatic.  You build up this frenzy of getting everything JUST SO, and then the sugar low hits…….IF the appraisal goes well, and IF the inspection goes well, we’ll be SELLING OUR HOME with a closing date of September 29.  Selling was the goal, but now that we are actually DOING it, what the heck are we doing??????  I think I must be sleepwalking.  Darn that Advil PM.  You know the song, Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell (and later the Counting Crows)?  “Don’t it always seem to go  That you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone…”

Still radio-silence from France re living options.  HOPEFULLY today there will be contact.  I have googled (new verb) and researched apartment living in CF……and learned much through both induction and deduction.  (Yes, I had to look up the difference. Click on it if you don’t know, either.) What the ads don’t say is just as instructive as what they DO say!  Can’t plan very well what to bring for an unknown square footage (oops – square meters).  Perhaps I should start watching more “Tiny House” episodes on HGTV…..

Delighted to join mes enfants at Hilton Head Island this long Labor Day weekend, although the forecast isn’t cooperating…..but we’ll have a great time on GAME DAY (BOOMER SOONER – GO JACKETS) and playing games and eating shrimp, if nothing else!  Not exactly the sunny three day weekend at the beach I envisioned when making the reservations last year, but being with our kids is as good as it gets.  <3  I don’t mind riding bikes in the rain, if it’s at Hilton Head.

There’s a card game that Robert and I used to play a lot called Speed.  It involves rapid thinking and frenzied grabbing of cards. (We’d even play in the airport between flights — people thought we were crazy.) The action is a fair analogy to how our days are going, between selling our home (inspections [plural]! appraisals! repairs!), Visa applications, French school, ‘intercultural training’ [don’t get me started], and where is that darn title to the car, anyway? The ticking in my head just won’t stop!  Chinese water torture…..

Enough for today.  Please pray for Houston now.  So many hurting people in a broken city.

Philippians 4:6–7

“. . . do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
