Here’s what I know about myself. I am one of those people who is really good as an advanced beginner (or intermediate, depending on the subject) – but I don’t like being at the bottom of the next level up! As in skiing — and tap dancing — and FRENCH!
My French:
vs. French conversation class today:
How can I learn FRENCH when I don’t even know what “future perfect continuous” tenses are in ENGLISH?!?! I have been humbled. And I don’t like it. WAAAYYYYYY out of my comfort zone. Maybe the French language has 40% fewer words than English, but I have such a long way to go. I believe the word in English is DAUNTING.
So watch this for a minute (not the whole thing) – and you’ll know how I think my French sounds!
And THIS why FRENCH people think ENGLISH is so hard to understand! (You should watch this — this guy is really good.) I have a pretty good ‘ear’ for accents and some of the Scottish/Welsh/Irish folks are hard for even me to understand! 🙂
So, YOUR TURN! Here’s a word for you – Meuglé: moo
The French language makes everything sound fancy. It’s the same with this word. Regular English cows “moo,” while the French vache tend to meuglé. And the sound they make is called meuglements. And oui, they do say “Voila!” a lot. And oui, they also say “Oui”- a LOT. And with that, I’m going to fini pour le jour!
Bisous,
Mindy
PS – Lots of activity coming up — The Salon Vinidome (wine convention), the Festival du Court Metrage (world-wide short film festival here in CF, including films from the University of Oklahoma!), a day trip to Vichy, more hospital experiences….check back soon!
